In 2023, 5,579 suicides were registered in England, equivalent to a provisional rate of 11.1 suicide deaths per 100,000 people; this rate was statistically significantly higher than the rates in 2022, 2021 and 2020; however, 2020 saw a decrease in suicide rates because of the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19)

ONS April 2024

The recent rise in suicide rates, as reported by the ONS, highlights the urgent need for collective action. Our goal must be zero suicides.

This website is dedicated to empowering you to recognise the signs of suicide risk, both in yourself and others, and to take life-saving steps.

"Most people thinking about suicide don’t want to die, they want the pain to stop, recognising the signs that someone is thinking about suicide is critical as is the ability to listen and to support that person away from wanting to take their own life”

Fiona Aldred, Chief Executive of The National Centre for Suicide Prevention Education and Training (NCSPET)

  • 1 in 20 people are having thoughts of suicide at any one time – this could be someone at work or in your social circle

  • When someone takes their own life, the effect ripples out to 135 other people – causing anxiety, distress, guilt and even depression

  • The impact of a worker taking their own life damages morale within an organisation and carries significant reputational risk

  • For front line staff, coping with customers exhibiting suicide behaviour can severely undermine their ability to perform their duties

What Can We Do Right Now today?

Taking Action:

Talk about it:

Open communication can be a lifeline. Listen without judgment and encourage them to seek help.

Offer support:

Let them know you care and are there for them.

Help them get help:

Connect them with resources like crisis hotlines, mental health professionals, or support groups.

Reduce access to means:

If concerned about immediate risk, remove access to firearms, medications, or other potential means of self-harm.

Don't leave them alone:

Stay with them until they are connected with help.

Beyond Early Intervention:

Postvention Support:

Losing someone to suicide can be incredibly painful. This website will provide resources and support for those grieving such a loss.

Suicide Prevention Initiatives:

We advocate for increased awareness campaigns, improved mental health services, and reduced stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Promoting Mental Wellbeing:

We believe in proactive mental health promotion. Resources on this website will help you cultivate resilience, build coping skills, and maintain emotional well-being.

Everyone must be a

priority for someone
